In the previous illustrator assignment, our DEI 613 design class was tasked with redrawing a geometric shape. This time the focus is on vectoring an outdoor’s organic object. Although I regularly use illustrator in my drawings, I never vectored an organic object so I was excited about this challenge.
I took several photos but this one stood out to me the most. It is the photo of berry tree that grows close to my neighborhood. I used to watch the squirrels and chipmunks climb this tree, pick up the berries and eat them. Unfortunately, it is winter, so my little friends weren’t there to be in the picture.
For vectoring the image, I started first with outlining the branch and the berries with the pen tool. Then I used the mesh tool to recreate the elements, colour them and add shadows and highlights. The final step was to add texture in the vectored illustrator image.
