I was always fascinated by the art of stop motion animation and how they give life to still objects. However, I never knew how time consuming and frustrating the process to get the perfect scene. After this project I have a true appreciation for this art and the artists who creatively beautiful work.
Since it was my first time to create a stop motion animation and work with adobe premiere, there was a lot of trial and error. Actually, it was mostly sweat and tears. I had numerous ideas to try, but I decided to stay realistic and try something simple first. I decided to use my Lego set for my first concept, which is to create a Star war space fight scene. After the long hours of work to create the perfect composition, my photos were accidently deleted. I had only couple of images that don’t make a cohesive scene. It was a painful for me especially after all the work and time invested in it. I decided to post pone the idea for now and move into another concept.
My next stop motion video was based one of the national dishes of my homeland, Shakshuka. This dish is one of the staple dishes in Tunisia and Libya cuisines. Actually, there is no home there that doesn’t make Shakshuka once or twice a week. It is a quick and affordable dish that is tasty and healthy. It is basically made of tomatoes, garlic, peppers and eggs. The name, Shakshuka, means “mixed things”, which refers to the mixing of the ingredients.
To make the concept come to life, I first had to storyboard my idea. Based on that I prepared the scene and the camera setup.
This is the a clip from the stop motion video (original is longer than 2- sec) first stop motion video; the intro was made with vectored shapes.
The full video on how to make the dish is coming next 😉
